Local SEO is how you show up when someone searches "lawn care in [your city]" or "landscaper near me". You do not need to be a tech expert. You need a few things done right and kept up.
How Google decides who shows up
For local searches, Google looks at three things:
- Relevance: does your business match what they searched?
- Distance: how close are you to the searcher or the city they named?
- Prominence: how well known and trusted are you (reviews, links, mentions)?
You cannot change distance, but you can work on the other two.
1. One page per service
A single "Services" page with a list is not enough. Create a separate page for each main service: lawn mowing, sod installation, mulch, landscape design, irrigation, tree trimming. Each page should explain what is included, the price range, the areas you serve, and answer common questions. This is how you show up for each search.
2. Pages for the cities you serve
If you cover several towns, a page for each one helps, as long as each has real local content: neighborhoods you work in, common grass types, local rules about watering or HOAs. Copying the same text with a different city name does not work.
3. Your Google Business Profile
Complete every field, choose the right categories, add photos monthly and keep reviews coming. Your website and profile should have the exact same business name, phone and service area.
4. Reviews that mention services and places
When a customer writes "They installed new sod at our house in Davie and it looks great", that helps you for sod and for Davie. You cannot tell customers what to write, but you can ask them to mention what you did.
5. A fast, mobile site
Most local searches happen on phones. If your site is slow or hard to use on a phone, people leave and Google notices. Aim for under three seconds.
6. Structured data
Schema markup tells Google your business type, services, prices and service area in a format it reads directly. Many site builders skip it. A good landscaping site includes it on every page.
7. Blog posts that answer real questions
Write about what your customers search: when to aerate in your area, how often to water new sod, what mulch to use. Each useful post is another way for people to find you.
8. Local links and mentions
Get listed on local directories, your chamber of commerce, supplier "find a pro" pages and local news if you sponsor something. Keep your name, address and phone the same everywhere.
How long does it take?
Usually a few months to see real movement, depending on competition. The good news: once you rank, it keeps bringing customers without paying for every click.
Frequently asked questions
How long does local SEO take for a landscaping company?
Often three to six months to see steady results, faster in smaller towns. Reviews and a complete Google Business Profile tend to show results first.
