How the price is calculated

Mowing is priced per visit from the lawn's square footage: a base price for the stop, plus a rate per 1,000 square feet above the first 3,000. Weekly service is cheaper per visit than a one-time cut because the grass is shorter and the route is planned, so the calculator takes 10% off weekly visits and 5% off biweekly ones, then shows the monthly total.

The rates here are typical for a licensed company in the US. Prices in your area can run higher in large metros and lower in rural counties. Read how much to charge for lawn mowing for the full method.

Measuring the lawn

The map measures the grass, not the lot. Trace the front yard, then add the back and the sides. Leave out the house, driveway, patio and beds. Satellite images can be a year or two old, so a new pool or an extension will not show; adjust the number if the yard has changed. Here is how to measure a lawn from the satellite map.

For lawn care companies

The same calculator goes on your website with your own base price, rate and add-ons, and your customers see your price at 9 p.m. instead of calling three companies. Leads arrive with the address and the measured square feet.

Frequently asked questions

How much does lawn mowing cost per visit?

In most US markets a standard suburban lawn runs $35 to $65 per visit. Large lots, slopes and overgrown first cuts cost more; weekly plans cost less per visit.

Is the satellite measurement accurate?

Usually within 5 to 10 percent on open lawns. Trees and old images make it less exact, which is why the price is a range.
